This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X25-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X25-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X25-20B

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X25-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 25mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X25-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X25-20B

This AirTAC cylinder is double acting with an adjustable stroke: air drives the rod out and pulls it back, and a stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere in the ordered 20 mm window, so the 25 mm stroke can be set from 5 to 25 mm on site. At 0.5 MPa the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull, rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it fits tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not. Note this ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ16X25.

The male rod thread (B code) bolts straight to I/Y knuckles, and FA flange or LB foot mounts attach to the same face. Fixed TPU bumpers at both ends decelerate the piston, and the body is hard-anodized aluminium with an S45C hard-chrome rod. A practical sizing rule: plan on roughly 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The magnet is not fitted on this version - order the -S code if you need CMSE / DMSE switch sensing. Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping to the ACEJ.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X25-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Where the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X25-20B Is Used

precision_manufacturing

Fixture clamp with set stroke

Clamps thin aluminium brackets on a small CNC fixture; the 20 mm window lets you trim the 25 mm stroke so the male-threaded rod pad lands exactly on the part without crushing it.

packaging

Carton push-off on a packing bench

Ejects folded cartons from a magazine into a glue station; 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough for lightweight boxes, and the short body fits under a low guard frame.

sensors

Escalate to sensed version

On a parts-presence check station, order the -S variant of this bore so CMSE or DMSE switches can report end positions; this non-S unit has no magnet to trigger them.

Replacing the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X25-20B with the ACEJ16X25-20B

Size between bores: at 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore pushes 56.5 N while the 20 mm bore pushes 157.1 N, so this 16 mm model at 100.5 N sits in the middle for light clamping and positioning. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not lock the piston mid-stroke, and on air loss the rod still drifts, so add a separate holding valve if the load must stay put. If you need position feedback, specify the -S magnet version instead; this unit has no magnet. For new designs, order the current ACEJ16X25 and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ACEJ16X25-20B
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X25-20B FAQ

At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 140.7 N and pull 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window, so the 25 mm extend stroke can be trimmed to anywhere between 5 and 25 mm with the stop screw. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, port M5x0.8, rod thread male (B code).

The ACPJ family is no longer in production. The current-production replacement is ACEJ16X25 (swap the P for an E), an ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class. Because the ACP was built to a DIN-standard body, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping, and add the -S code if you want the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches.
