This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X25-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X25-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X25-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 25mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X25-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ16X25-20S is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder: 16 mm bore, 25 mm stroke and a 20 mm adjustment window, so a stop screw trims the usable extend range to 5-25 mm on site. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 140.7 N / 105.6 N, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -S code means the optional magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs, guards and gantries. For sizing, treat roughly 60 N (0.6 of the push force) as the practical working output at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Air supply is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends. This model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X25 (P swapped for E), same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X25-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X25-20S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×25 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 5-25 mm trimmed extend range and 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa eject finished connectors or terminals off a nest without disturbing adjacent tooling in a tight fixture plate.
With the fitted magnet, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm the rod is fully retracted before a vision check or leak test starts on a PCB or sensor housing.
About 60 N of practical working force at 0.5 MPa seats small nylon or brass bushings in electronics enclosures where a full-length profile cylinder will not fit.
At 16 mm bore this sits mid-range in the ACPJ family: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa for lighter clamps, while the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N when the same footprint must move a heavier part. The 25 mm stroke is well inside the 75 mm maximum standard stroke for bore 16, so no made-to-order stroke is needed. The stop screw shortens the extend stroke only - it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Order the ACEJ16X25 as the current replacement and verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
Push is 100.5 N and pull 75.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa it is 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Bore is 16 mm, stroke 25 mm with a 20 mm adjustment window (usable 5-25 mm), rod 8 mm with female M4x0.7 thread, port M5x0.8, operating pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, and a fixed TPU bumper at both ends.
Order the ACEJ16X25, the current-production ISO 21287 successor made by swapping the P for an E. It matches the same bore, stroke and force class and keeps the adjustable-stroke concept, but because the ACP is DIN-standard you should confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions and FA/FB or LB hole pattern before swapping. The ACEJ carries the optional -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches the same way.
