This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X25-20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X25-20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X25-20 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 25mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X25-20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable stroke, the ACPJ16X25-20 gives 100.5 N of push and 75.4 N of pull at 0.5 MPa (rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa) from a 16 mm bore. The -20 code sets a 20 mm adjustment window, so a stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere in a 5-25 mm range on site. Air supply is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and rod speed runs 30-500 mm/s.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs and guarded stations. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, and the female M4x0.7 rod thread is standard. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X25, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 60 N (about 6 kg of vertical lift) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X25-20 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X25-20 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×25 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 5-25 mm adjustable window lets one cylinder serve several part heights on a machining fixture, with 100.5 N enough for light clamping of aluminium blanks.
A 25 mm stroke with a 20 mm trim range ejects finished clips or pins from a nest, and the short body fits inside a guarded pick-and-place head.
About 6 kg of practical vertical force at 0.5 MPa nudges cartons or blister packs off a conveyor lane where a full-length cylinder will not fit.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa is more than your load needs, the ACPJ12 delivers 56.5 N in the same compact format; if you need headroom, the ACPJ20 pushes 157.1 N. Remember the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod can drift if air is lost. Mount with FA/FB flanges or LB feet, and order the -S code if you want the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches; this version has no magnet fitted. For new builds, specify the ACEJ16X25 instead, as this ACPJ is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 140.7 N and pull to 105.6 N. The theoretical maximum at 1.0 MPa is 20.5 kgf. The -20 stop screw trims the extend stroke within a 5-25 mm window, and speed runs 30-500 mm/s at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).
An external stop screw shortens the 25 mm extend stroke by up to 20 mm, giving any usable stroke from 5 to 25 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past the ordered value. This ACPJ is discontinued - the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X25 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN-standard footprint.
