This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X30-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X30-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X30-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 30mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X30-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ16X30-20S is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 16 mm bore and 30 mm stroke. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window, so a stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere in a 10-30 mm range on site. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N, rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 60 N of usable work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 3 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. This -S version carries the optional magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body. The S45C hard-chrome rod ends in a female M4x0.7 thread, and fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends. Production has ended: the current drop-in is the ACEJ16X30, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X30-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X30-20S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×30 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The trimmed 10-30 mm extend stroke and 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suit knocking finished electronics or watch components off a nest without disturbing the fixture.
About 60 N of practical force at 0.5 MPa holds small 3D-printed or moulded parts during a drilling or gluing pass, and the 20 mm window lets operators fine-tune clamp travel per part.
With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm extend and retract on a lab test rig, while the compact body fits inside a benchtop guarding frame.
Size against the neighbours: a 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while stepping up to 20 mm raises it to 157.1 N, so the 16 mm at 100.5 N sits mid-range for light clamping and positioning. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and is not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts, so add a separate valve or lock for load holding. FA/FB flanges and LB feet bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Since this model is discontinued, order the ACEJ16X30 as the current-production replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull. The theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the port is M5x0.8 on this 16 mm bore.
The -20 code is a 20 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 30 mm extend stroke to any value from 10 to 30 mm. It is a mechanical end stop, not a load-holding brake, and fixed TPU bumpers decelerate at both ends. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ16X30 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
