This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X35-20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X35-20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X35-20SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 35mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X35-20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X35-20SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -20 stop screw trims the 35 mm stroke by up to 20 mm on site, giving a usable range of 15-35 mm. This 16 mm bore unit delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The male rod thread (B code) and the fitted -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches make it a direct fit for sensor-equipped jigs.
Its hard-anodized aluminium ISO 21287-class short body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures and guarding where a full-length body will not go. In practice, plan on about 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 0.6 of the rated push), which corresponds to lifting about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note that this ACPJ model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ16X35 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X35-20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X35-20SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×35 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 15-35 mm adjustable window lets a machinist dial the clamp stroke to the fixture without shimming, and the 60 N usable push at 0.5 MPa suits light aluminium part clamps.
With the -S magnet fitted, a CMSE switch confirms the rod is fully extended before the pick-and-place cycle starts, at speeds of 30-500 mm/s.
The short body fits inside a bench-top press head where an ISO 15552 profile cylinder would not, and 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa handles small pin insertion jobs.
Size the bore against the load: at 0.5 MPa the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N push / 75.4 N pull. If your load needs more, step up to the 20 mm bore (157.1 N push / 117.8 N pull); if less, the 12 mm bore (56.5 N push / 42.4 N pull) saves space. Keep the working load near 60 N so the cylinder is not running at its limit. The adjustable stop shortens the extend stroke only - it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flanges, LB feet and I/Y rod knuckles bolt to the standard face; the -S magnet is already fitted here, so CMSE / DMSE switches mount directly. For new designs, order the current ACEJ16X35 instead.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N; the theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window, so the 35 mm extend stroke can be trimmed anywhere in a 15-35 mm range with the stop screw. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the port is M5x0.8.
It is a short compact body in hard-anodized aluminium with an S45C hard-chrome rod, a fixed TPU bumper at each end, and FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting on the standard face. The short build saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. The ACPJ family is discontinued: order the ACEJ16X35, the current ISO 21287 drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class, and confirm the mounting dimensions before the swap.
