This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X35-20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X35-20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X35-20 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 35mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X35-20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X35-20 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 35 mm stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable range of 15-35 mm. At 0.5 MPa the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull, rising to 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa. Its short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.
Built on a hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod, it runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and travels 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 3 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X35, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X35-20 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X35-20 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×35 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 15-35 mm adjustable range lets a technician dial in the exact ejection depth for connectors or stamped terminals, with 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa clearing light press-fit parts.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke on site, so the same cylinder serves multiple dial positions; the fixed TPU bumper decelerates the rod at both ends.
The short body fits inside tight instrument enclosures, and the M5x0.8 ports plus 30-500 mm/s speed range suit fast, low-force sample transfer of about 3 kg vertical equivalent.
Size the load first: at 0.5 MPa this 16 mm bore pushes 100.5 N, while the smaller 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N and the larger 20 mm bore gives 157.1 N, so step up or down based on your fixture force. The female M4x0.7 rod thread and FA/FB flange or LB foot options bolt into standard ISO 21287 fixtures. Position sensing requires the optional -S magnet code (CMSE / DMSE switches); this version has no magnet fitted. Since the ACPJ is discontinued, order the ACEJ16X35 as the current replacement and verify mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window, so the 35 mm extend stroke can be trimmed anywhere from 15 to 35 mm. The stop screw shortens the stroke only; it is not a mid-stroke lock, and on air loss the piston still drifts.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with FA/FB flange and LB foot mounting on the standard face and a fixed TPU bumper at each end. Position sensing is possible only when the optional -S magnet is ordered, enabling CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches; this model has no magnet fitted. The ACPJ is discontinued, so plan the swap to the ACEJ16X35 and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
