AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X35-40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X35-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 35mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X35-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X35-40S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 35 mm stroke anywhere within the ordered 40 mm window, giving a usable range of 0-35 mm. Air drives the rod out and pulls it back, a fixed TPU bumper decelerates at each end, and the -S code means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the hard-anodized aluminium body. At 0.5 MPa the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N of push, and in practice you can plan on roughly 60 N of that for real work, which is about 5 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs, guarding and gantries where a full-length body will not fit. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts plus I/Y rod knuckles bolt straight to the standard face. Note that the stop screw is a mechanical end stop only: on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a mid-stroke lock. This model is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X35, same bore, stroke and force class; confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN standard.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick finished 3-5 kg aluminium blanks off a machining fixture, and the 0-35 mm trimmed stroke keeps the throw short and repeatable.
With the fitted magnet, a CMSE switch confirms the gate is fully retracted before the filler head drops, cycling at up to 500 mm/s between batches.
Around 60 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa suits pressing small bushings into plastic housings, with the stop screw set so the ram never bottoms out on the part.
At 16 mm bore you sit mid-range: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa for lighter clamping, while the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N when the load needs more force. Both share the same M5x0.8 port size. If you need to hold a position against a falling load, remember the adjuster is only an extend-stroke end stop, not a brake - add an external locking solution. Match FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting to your fixture, and order CMSE or DMSE switches alongside this -S version. For new designs, specify the ACEJ16X35 instead, as this ACPJ is discontinued.

Order the ACEJ16X35, the current ISO 21287 successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same bore, stroke and force class in a short compact body. Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture, because the original ACPJ was built to a DIN standard. The ACEJ also accepts the same FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts, and the -S magnet option for CMSE / DMSE switches carries over.
