This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X35-40SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X35-40SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X35-40SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 35mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X35-40SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X35-40SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 35 mm stroke anywhere within the ordered 40 mm window, giving a usable range of 0-35 mm. Air drives the rod in both directions, a fixed TPU bumper sits at each end, and the male-threaded 8 mm rod (the B code) bolts straight to I/Y knuckles. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those figures rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs, guards and pick stations where a full-length body will not fit. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries the S45C hard-chrome rod, ports are M5x0.8, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches for end-of-stroke sensing. In practice the 100.5 N push translates to roughly 60 N (about 6 kg) of usable work at 0.5 MPa, and it lifts about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note: this model is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X35 (same bore, stroke and force class); confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP series is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X35-40SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X35-40SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×35 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick light molded caps or bushings off the ejector side of a small tool, and the 0-35 mm adjustable range lets the setter dial the exact eject distance on the bench.
A PCB or connector assembly under about 6 kg of clamp load holds fine at 0.5 MPa; the fitted magnet with a CMSE switch confirms the clamp reached its trimmed end position before the test starts.
The male-threaded 8 mm rod drives a stop blade that rises to halt bottles or cartons; the short body fits under low guard rails where an ISO 15552 profile cylinder would overhang the frame.
Size by force: bore 12 delivers 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa and bore 20 delivers 157.1 N, so the 16 mm bore at 100.5 N sits between them for light clamping and part placement. If your part weighs near 5 kg or less and lifts vertically, this bore covers it with margin; heavier loads should step up to bore 20. The 40 mm adjust window suits fixtures where the final extend position is tuned on the machine - remember the stop is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet pairs with CMSE / DMSE switches. Order the ACEJ16X35 as the current replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 35 mm extend stroke by up to 40 mm, so the working range is 0-35 mm. It shortens the stroke only - it never extends it past 35 mm, and it is a mechanical end stop, not a load-holding lock, so the rod still drifts on air loss. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at both ends.
The ACPJ family is out of production; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X35, which swaps the P for an E and matches the same 16 mm bore, 35 mm stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP series was DIN-standard. The short body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and this unit carries the optional -S magnet so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted for position sensing.
