The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X35-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 35mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X35-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable stroke, the ACPJ16X35-40 uses a 16 mm bore to deliver 100.5 N of push force and 75.4 N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa. An external stop screw trims the 35 mm extend stroke anywhere within the ordered 40 mm window, so one cylinder covers a 0-35 mm working range without swapping parts. The hard-anodized aluminium body keeps the mounting length roughly 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.
For sizing, plan on about 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa and expect roughly 5 kg of vertical lift capability with a 2:1 margin. The fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the piston at the ends of travel only - it never locks or holds a load, so on air loss the rod will drift. Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X35, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class, but confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping because the ACP is DIN-standard.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick lightweight molded caps or bushings off a mold face, and the 0-35 mm adjustable range lets the setter tune the eject travel without changing cylinders.
About 60 N of usable clamp force holds PCB carrier trays against a locating stop, and the short body fits inside the shallow fixture plates typical of SMT support tooling.
The rod swings a lightweight diverter flap to route components between chutes; with the -S magnet code, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm gate position at each end of the trimmed stroke.
At 16 mm bore this sits in the light-duty band: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa while the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N, so step up if your part weight or friction load exceeds about 60 N of real work. The 35 mm stroke is well inside the 75 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore. The female M4x0.7 rod thread accepts standard I/Y knuckles, and FA flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face. If you need position sensing, order the -S variant with the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches - this code has no magnet fitted. For new builds, specify the ACEJ16X35 instead.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N. The theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice, budget about 60 N for real work at 0.5 MPa, which corresponds to lifting roughly 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 safety margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, and speed runs 30-500 mm/s.
The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 35 mm extend stroke on site, giving any usable stroke from 0 to 35 mm. It is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X35, a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to the DIN standard.
