This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X40-10S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X40-10S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X40-10S

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X40-10S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X40-10S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X40-10S

The ACPJ16X40-10S is a double acting, adjustable-stroke compact cylinder from AirTAC's DIN-standard ACPJ line, now discontinued and replaced by the ACEJ16X40 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Its 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -10 code gives a 10 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere between 30 and 40 mm on site, so one cylinder covers several fixture positions. Note the stop is a mechanical end stop only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a mid-stroke lock.

The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs and guarded stations. In practice, plan on about 60 N (0.6 x the 100.5 N push) of usable work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin - enough for small covers, brackets or sensor carriers. The S code fits the magnet, so CMSE / DMSE switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke signals. FA/FB flanges and LB feet bolt to the standard face; confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping from the discontinued ACPJ to the ACEJ16X40.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X40-10S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Where the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X40-10S Is Used

precision_manufacturing

Small-part ejection on assembly fixtures

The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa ejects stamped clips or molded inserts from a nest, and the 30-40 mm trimmed stroke matches shallow die pockets without repositioning the mount.

sensors

Switch-monitored clamp in a test station

With the fitted magnet and CMSE / DMSE switches, a PCB or connector test fixture confirms the 16 mm bore clamp has reached its trimmed end position before the probe cycle starts.

vertical_align_bottom

Light vertical lowering of a gauge head

Lifts about 5 kg vertically with margin, so a dial-indicator or camera gauge can be lowered onto a machined part in a compact inspection gantry where a full-length body would not fit.

Replacing the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X40-10S with the ACEJ16X40-10S

Size between bores: the 12 mm ACPJ gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N - pick this 16 mm model when your load sits between roughly 40 and 60 N of real work. The 40 mm stroke can be trimmed to 30 mm with the -10 window, and the 75 mm max standard stroke for bore 16 leaves room if you later need more travel. Choose the female M4x0.7 rod thread (this model) or the B-code male thread to match your knuckle. If you need position signals, this S version already carries the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. For new designs, order the current-production ACEJ16X40 instead and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ACEJ16X40-10S
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X40-10S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N; the theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -10 code gives a 10 mm window, so the extend stroke can be trimmed from 40 mm down to 30 mm with the stop screw. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the TPU bumper at both ends is fixed.

It is a short ISO 21287-class compact cylinder with a hard-anodized aluminium body and S45C hard-chrome rod, saving about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ16X40 (swap the P for an E) in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, and remember the magnet here is the optional -S code, not standard on every unit.
