This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X40-10SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X40-10SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X40-10SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X40-10SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X40-10SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 40 mm stroke by up to 10 mm on site, giving a usable 30-40 mm range. It is a discontinued DIN-standard short-body unit, and the current-production drop-in is the ISO 21287 ACEJ16X40 - same bore, stroke and force class - so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N, with a theoretical 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. The S code means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke sensing. In practice, plan on roughly 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, and the B code gives a male rod thread with PT ports.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X40-10SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X40-10SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The trimmed 30-40 mm extend range and 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suit knocking finished bushings or pins out of a drilling jig without disturbing the clamp.
With the fitted magnet and CMSE / DMSE switches, a plastics sorting gate gets confirmed open and closed signals at 30-500 mm/s cycle speeds.
About 60 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa presses snap-fit electronics connectors home in assembly cells where a full-length body would not clear the guarding.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is more than your jig needs, the ACPJ12X40-10SB gives 56.5 N in the same compact format; if you need more, the ACPJ20X40-10SB delivers 157.1 N. Remember the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so on air loss the piston still drifts and you need a separate valve or lock for holding. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt straight to the ISO 21287 face, and the M5x0.8 ports suit small manifolds. Order the ACEJ16X40 as your current-production replacement.
Replacement checklist
Push is 100.5 N and pull 75.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa it reaches 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 16 mm bore uses M5x0.8 ports, an 8 mm rod with male thread (B code), and runs at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with 30-500 mm/s speed. The stop screw trims the 40 mm stroke within the 10 mm window, giving 30-40 mm of extend travel. This model is discontinued; order the ACEJ16X40 instead.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 10 mm inside the ordered window - it cannot lengthen travel past 40 mm, and it is an end stop only, not a load-holding brake. Because the S code is on this model, the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches mount directly for end-of-stroke detection. Fixed TPU bumpers decelerate the piston at both ends. Before switching to the ACEJ16X40, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture.
