AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X40-10 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X40-10 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X40-10 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X40-10 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, now discontinued in favor of the ACEJ16X40. Its 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -10 code sets a 10 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw trims the 40 mm extend stroke down to 30 mm on site, so one cylinder covers a 30-40 mm range without reordering.
Built on the ISO 21287 short-body format, it saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which matters in tight jigs and guarding. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, M5x0.8 ports, a fixed TPU bumper at each end and a female M4x0.7 rod thread. For planning, treat about 60 N (roughly 6 kg) as the usable working force at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 100.5 N rating, and expect about 5 kg of vertical lift capability with a 2:1 margin. Note that the stop screw is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock: on air loss the piston still drifts.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick stamped terminals or molded caps off a nest, and the 30-40 mm trimmed stroke keeps the ejector plate inside a compact tooling plate.
About 60 N of practical working force at 0.5 MPa holds a circuit board against locating pins during in-circuit testing, and the short ISO 21287 body fits under a low fixture lid.
With roughly 5 kg of vertical-lift equivalent and a 30-40 mm adjustable extend range, the cylinder parts or diverts lightweight cartons on a benchtop transfer line.
Size between bores: an ACPJ12 gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while stepping up to an ACPJ20 raises it to 157.1 N, so the 16 mm bore at 100.5 N sits mid-range for light clamping and indexing. Match FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting to the fixture, and if position sensing is needed, order the -S variant with the optional magnet so CMSE / DMSE switches can be fitted; this version has no magnet. Remember the adjuster shortens the extend stroke only and does not hold a load against air loss. Since this model is discontinued, confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions and switch to the current-production ACEJ16X40.
