AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X40-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X40-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X40-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X40-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ16X40-20B uses a 16 mm bore and a 40 mm basic stroke that an external stop screw trims by up to 20 mm, giving a usable range of 20-40 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N, with a theoretical 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures and guarding. The rod end is male thread (the B code) and the air port is M5x0.8.
This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X40, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. Plan real work at about 60 N (0.6 of the push rating) at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Air is filtered to 40 um, pressure runs 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends. The magnet is the optional -S code only; this version has none, so no CMSE / DMSE switch can be fitted.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 20-40 mm trimmed stroke clamps small machined parts in a drill or milling fixture, with about 60 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa enough for light clamping fingers.
On a packaging line, the stop screw sets an exact 20-40 mm press travel to seat caps or fold tabs, and the short body fits inside a compact guard.
With the -S magnet ordered, CMSE or DMSE switches flag end positions as the rod pushes PCB trays off a test nest at up to 500 mm/s.
If 100.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa is marginal for the job, step up to the 20 mm bore for 157.1 N; if the load is light and space is very tight, the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N. Size the stop so the trimmed stroke still clears the part - the adjuster shortens the extend stroke only and never lengthens it past 40 mm. Remember the stop is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock: on air loss the piston still drifts, so add a separate holding valve for suspended loads. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face; order the -S code if CMSE / DMSE switching is needed. For new builds, specify the ACEJ16X40 instead.
