AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X40-30B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X40-30B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X40-30B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This compact 16 mm bore cylinder works double acting: air drives the piston out and pulls it back, and a stop screw on the head trims the extend stroke anywhere within a 30 mm window, so the 40 mm nominal stroke can be set anywhere from 10 to 40 mm on site. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull, with a theoretical ceiling of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot.
Practically, plan on about 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 100.5 N rating, which corresponds to lifting roughly 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod with a fixed TPU bumper at each end, and the B code gives a male rod thread. Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is ACEJ16X40, same bore, stroke and force class, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
With about 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, the 16 mm bore suits light press-fitting of small bushings or terminals in electronics assembly benches.
The 30 mm window lets a technician set the extend stroke between 10 and 40 mm to match different carton heights without changing cylinders.
The short body, about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, fits inside dense drilling jigs where space above the part is limited.
Size it against neighbours: the 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa and the 20 mm bore delivers 157.1 N, so this 16 mm bore at 100.5 N sits in the middle for light clamping and indexing. If the load must stay put on air loss, add an external locking valve rather than relying on the stop screw, which only shortens the extend stroke and does not hold a load. Match FA/FB flange or LB foot hardware to the ISO 21287 face, and remember the magnet is the optional -S code - this version has none, so CMSE / DMSE switches cannot be fitted. For new builds, order the ACEJ16X40 instead.

The -30 code is a 30 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 30 mm, giving a usable range of 10-40 mm. It is a mechanical end stop only - on air loss the piston still drifts. This ACPJ is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ16X40 (same bore, stroke and force class). Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP follows a DIN-standard layout.
