This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X40-30S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X40-30S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X40-30S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X40-30S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X40-30S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -30 stop screw trims the 40 mm stroke down to as little as 10 mm on site, so one unit covers a 10-40 mm range. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N, rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice plan on roughly 60 N of usable push, which lifts about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.
The hard-anodized aluminium body carries aluminium covers with an S45C hard-chrome rod, and a fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the piston. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke signalling. Note that the ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X40 (same bore, stroke and force class), and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X40-30S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X40-30S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×40 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 10-40 mm trimmed stroke and 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suit knocking finished nylon or POM parts off a mold face on a compact tooling plate.
With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm the clamp jaw has reached the trimmed end position before the screwdriver station cycles.
About 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa presses terminal housings into small PCB connectors without damaging the solder joints.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is more than the job needs, the ACPJ12X40-30S gives 56.5 N in the same footprint class; if the load needs more, step up to the ACPJ20X40-30S at 157.1 N. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke within the 30 mm window - it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts plus I/Y rod knuckles bolt to the standard face. This model is discontinued; order the ACEJ16X40 as the current replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 140.7 N and pull 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -30 code gives a 30 mm adjustment window, so the extend stroke can be trimmed anywhere from 10 mm to the full 40 mm. Port is M5x0.8, rod thread is female M4x0.7, speed range is 30-500 mm/s, and operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).
No - the ACPJ family is discontinued. The current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X40, which matches the same 16 mm bore, 40 mm stroke and force class in the ISO 21287 short-body format. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping, because the ACP series was built to the DIN standard.
