This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X40-30 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X40-30 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X40-30 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X40-30 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X40-30 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable stroke: an external stop screw trims the 40 mm extend stroke by up to 30 mm, giving a usable range of 10-40 mm. At 0.5 MPa the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N of push and 75.4 N of pull, rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa. In practice, plan on roughly 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, and expect it to lift about 5 kg vertically once you halve the theoretical 10 kg lift equivalent for a 2:1 margin.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into cramped jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not reach. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, the hard-anodized aluminium barrel carries an S45C hard-chrome rod with a female M4x0.7 thread, and the M5x0.8 ports take air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi). Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X40, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before you swap.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X40-30 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X40-30 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×40 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Trims the 40 mm stroke down to about 10 mm with the stop screw to nudge finished clips off a mold table, using the 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa.
The 10-40 mm adjustable range lets a line technician fine-tune the stop position for different carton heights without changing the cylinder.
About 5 kg of vertical lift capability with a 2:1 margin seats microplate lids gently; the compact body fits under a low benchtop frame.
Size by force first: if 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is more than you need, the bore 12 version gives 56.5 N; if you need more, bore 20 reaches 157.1 N at the same pressure. The -30 window suits jobs where the final position is tuned on the machine, but remember the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and does not hold a load if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and if you need position feedback you must order the -S variant with the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches - this non-S code has no magnet. For new designs, specify the ACEJ16X40 instead.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 140.7 N and pull 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -30 code means the stop screw shortens the 40 mm extend stroke by up to 30 mm, so the working range is 10-40 mm. Speed is 30-500 mm/s and operating pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).
The ACPJ16X40-30 is no longer in production; the current drop-in is the ACEJ16X40 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP follows the older DIN-standard footprint. For position sensing, order the -S code to get the optional magnet, which then accepts CMSE / DMSE switches; without -S there is no magnet in the piston.
