This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X60-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X60-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X60-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 60mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X60-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X60-20B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 60 mm stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable range of 40-60 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N, rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 60 N (about 6 kg of thrust) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating. The 16 mm bore carries an M5x0.8 port and an 8 mm rod with a MALE thread, since this model carries the B code.
This unit is DISCONTINUED. The current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X60 (swap the P for an E), which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP is DIN-standard. The short ISO 21287 body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into cramped jigs and guards. Note there is no magnet fitted here; the optional -S code is what enables CMSE / DMSE switch sensing. Fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, speed spans 30-500 mm/s, and pressure runs 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X60-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X60-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×60 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 40-60 mm trim range lets one cylinder serve several fixture variants on a small milling jig, with 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa enough to seat light aluminium parts against a hard stop.
A 60 mm stroke with up to 20 mm of on-site trimming suits kicking misprinted cartons off a narrow conveyor lane, where the short ISO 21287 body fits under guarding that blocks a full-length cylinder.
About 6 kg of usable thrust at 0.5 MPa presses microplate seals or caps in benchtop diagnostic equipment, with the male rod thread simplifying tooling attachment.
Size against neighbours: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while stepping up to 20 mm lifts thrust to 157.1 N - pick 16 mm when 100.5 N covers the job with margin. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke; it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so on air loss the piston still drifts and a separate holding method is needed for suspended loads. Mounting uses FA/FB flanges and LB feet plus I/Y rod knuckles on the ISO 21287 face. If position sensing matters, order the -S variant instead. For new builds, specify the ACEJ16X60.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice budget about 60 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa, which corresponds to lifting roughly 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin - match that against your real part weight.
The -20 code gives a 20 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere between 40 and 60 mm, but it never lengthens the stroke past the ordered 60 mm and it does not hold a load on air loss. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ16X60, same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
