This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X60-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X60-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X60-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 60mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X60-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable in stroke, the ACPJ16X60-20S is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder: 16 mm bore, 60 mm stroke and an 8 mm hard-chrome S45C rod on a hard-anodized aluminium body. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N, rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.
The -20 code is a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the 60 mm extend stroke down to as little as 40 mm on site, so one cylinder covers a 40-60 mm range without re-ordering. Because this unit carries the optional -S magnet, CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted directly for end-of-stroke signals. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X60, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X60-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X60-20S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×60 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 40-60 mm trimmed extend stroke and 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suit knocking finished caps or connectors off a mold face, with the TPU bumper softening each return.
With the fitted -S magnet and CMSE / DMSE switches, the 16 mm bore confirms clamp presence electronically in electronics or medical-device fixture work.
About 60 N of practical working force at 0.5 MPa is enough for light marking or labeling heads, and the short body fits the narrow gantries of carton machines.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa is more than your load needs, the ACPJ12 at 56.5 N may suffice; if it falls short, step up to the ACPJ20 for 157.1 N. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so do not rely on it to hold a load mid-stroke. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet pairs with CMSE / DMSE switches. This model is discontinued; order the ACEJ16X60 as the current replacement and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa, 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull; theoretical maximum 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm window, so the stop screw trims the 60 mm extend stroke anywhere down to 40 mm. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at both ends.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with FA/FB flange and LB foot options on the standard face. This unit carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches mount directly. The ACPJ family is discontinued - the ACEJ16X60 is the current drop-in; confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
