This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X60-20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X60-20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X60-20SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 60mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X60-20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting with an adjustable stroke, the ACPJ16X60-20SB is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder: 16 mm bore, 60 mm stroke and an 8 mm male-threaded rod (the B code). Its stop screw trims the extend stroke by up to 20 mm on site, giving a usable 40-60 mm range, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at each end. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 140.7 N / 105.6 N, with a theoretical 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures a full-length cylinder cannot reach.
Plan on roughly 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 0.6 of the rated push), which lifts around 6 kg vertically - halve that for a 2:1 margin on a pick-and-place arm. The -S magnet this model carries lets CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches report end positions. This model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X60, same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X60-20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X60-20SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×60 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 40-60 mm adjustable range and 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suit clamping small aluminium brackets in a drilling jig where a full-length cylinder will not fit.
With about 6 kg of usable vertical push at 0.5 MPa, the 16 mm bore ejects populated SMT trays or PCB carriers from a test nest without over-force.
The fitted -S magnet with CMSE / DMSE switches confirms extend and retract on a short sliding gate, with the stop screw set to a repeatable 45 mm stroke.
Size between bores if the load is light: a 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while stepping up to 20 mm raises it to 157.1 N. The 16 mm bore here sits in the middle at 100.5 N push / 75.4 N pull. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so never rely on it to hold a load mid-stroke. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet works with CMSE / DMSE switches. Order the ACEJ16X60 as the current replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa, 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code is a 20 mm window: the stop screw shortens the 60 mm extend stroke to any value from 40 to 60 mm. It shortens the stroke only - it never lengthens it past 60 mm, and it is not a mid-stroke lock. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at both ends.
It is a short-body compact cylinder with a hard-anodized aluminium body and S45C hard-chrome rod, saving about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with M5x0.8 ports and FA/FB flange or LB foot options. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X60 (swap the P for an E) in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP is DIN-standard.
