This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X60-40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X60-40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X60-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 60mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X60-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable in stroke, the ACPJ16X60-40S is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 16 mm bore and 60 mm stroke. The -40 code gives a 40 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw trims the extend stroke on site, so the usable range is 20-60 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 140.7 N push. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot. This unit carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the body.
Plan around about 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 60% of the rated push), which lifts about 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries M5x0.8 ports, the 8 mm rod ends in a female M4x0.7 thread, and fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends. Note that the stop screw sets the end of stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. Since the ACPJ is discontinued, order the current ACEJ16X60, a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class, and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X60-40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X60-40S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×60 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 20-60 mm adjustable window lets a machinist trim clamp travel per fixture, with about 60 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa holding small aluminium parts during drilling.
Because the -S magnet is fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm extend and retract positions on a 60 mm stroke, feeding a PLC without extra brackets.
The short body, about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, fits inside tight ejector plates where the 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough.
At 16 mm bore this sits mid-range: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa for lighter clamping, while the 20 mm bore delivers 157.1 N when you need more force in the same short envelope. The 60 mm stroke is within the 75 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so no made-to-order build is required. If you need position feedback, this -S version already has the magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches; FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the same face. For new designs, specify the ACEJ16X60 instead - it is the current-production successor and matches this bore, stroke and force class, but verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa, 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, air filtered to 40 um, ports M5x0.8, rod 8 mm with female M4x0.7 thread, and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends.
The -40 code sets a 40 mm window: a stop screw shortens the 60 mm extend stroke to any length from 20 to 60 mm. It is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts on air loss. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X60 (same bore, stroke and force class). Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.
