This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X60-40SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X60-40SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X60-40SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 60mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X60-40SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ16X60-40SB is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 16 mm bore and 60 mm stroke. A stop screw trims the extend stroke by up to 40 mm on site, giving a usable range of 20-60 mm without changing cylinders. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N, rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa. Its short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures and guarding.
The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod with a male (B-code) thread, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at each end. Because the -S magnet is fitted on this model, CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke sensing. For sizing, treat roughly 60 N (0.6 of the push force) as the practical working load at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 6 kg vertically; halve that for a 2:1 margin on real lifts. This model is discontinued: the current drop-in is the ACEJ16X60, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X60-40SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X60-40SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×60 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa clamps small aluminium or plastic workpieces, and the 20-60 mm trim range adapts one cylinder to different pallet heights.
With the fitted -S magnet and a CMSE switch, the gate position is confirmed electrically; the male rod thread accepts a gate arm knuckle directly.
About 6 kg of practical vertical force at 0.5 MPa seats vials or lids gently, and the compact short body fits inside a benchtop enclosure.
Bore 16 sits mid-range in the ACPJ family: the 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N, so step up if your jig needs more than the 100.5 N this bore provides. The 40 mm window suits stations where the same cylinder serves parts of differing heights. Note the stop screw shortens the extend stroke only; it is not a mid-stroke lock, and the piston still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flanges, LB feet and I/Y rod knuckles bolt to the standard face, and the male rod thread suits knuckle or tooling plates. Order the ACEJ16X60 as the current-production replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N. The theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice plan on about 60 N of working force at 0.5 MPa, which is roughly 6 kg of vertical lift, and halve that for a 2:1 safety margin on real part weights.
The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 60 mm extend stroke anywhere down to 20 mm, set on site with a spanner. The ACPJ family is discontinued, and the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X60 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN-standard footprint.
