This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X60-50S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X60-50S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X60-50S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 60mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X60-50S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X60-50S is a double acting, adjustable-stroke compact cylinder in the discontinued AirTAC ACPJ series. Its 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -50 code gives a 50 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw trims the 60 mm extend stroke down to as little as 10 mm on site, so one cylinder covers a 10-60 mm working range. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot.
This S-coded unit carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body to report end positions. The S45C hard-chrome rod ends in a female M4x0.7 thread, air ports are M5x0.8, and fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends. In practice, plan on about 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, enough to lift roughly 3 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note that ACPJ is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is ACEJ16X60, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP series is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X60-50S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X60-50S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×60 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The trimmed 10-60 mm extend range and 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suit knocking finished bushings or pins out of a light machining jig without overtravel.
With the fitted -S magnet, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm rod position on a 60 mm maximum stroke, ideal for electronics test rigs cycling at 30-500 mm/s.
A body about 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder lets the 16 mm bore clamp small brackets or PCB fixtures inside shallow machine frames.
Size the job both ways: if 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is more than needed, the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N in the same series; if the load needs more, step up to the 20 mm bore at 157.1 N. Keep in mind the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and is not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts, so do not rely on it to hold a load. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. For new projects, order the ACEJ16X60, the current ISO 21287 replacement for this discontinued model.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, and the air port is M5x0.8. The -50 stop screw trims the 60 mm extend stroke anywhere down to 10 mm.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke within the ordered 50 mm window, giving a usable 10-60 mm range; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 60 mm and it is a mechanical end stop, not a load-holding brake. The ACPJ series is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is ACEJ16X60 in the ISO 21287 family, so confirm mounting dimensions against the DIN-standard ACP footprint before swapping.
