This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X70-10 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X70-10 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-10 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70-10 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X70-10 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 70 mm stroke by up to 10 mm on site, giving a usable 60-70 mm range. Air works on both faces of the 16 mm piston, so it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N at 0.5 MPa (rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa). The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it fits shallow jigs and guard rails that a full-length cylinder cannot. Note this model is discontinued; ACEJ16X70 is the current-production successor.
Practically, plan on roughly 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 100.5 N rating, and expect about 5 kg of vertical lift capability with a 2:1 margin (the theoretical figure is about 10 kg). The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod with a female M4x0.7 thread, M5x0.8 ports, and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends. There is no magnet fitted to this version - the optional -S code adds one so CMSE / DMSE switches can be used. Speed range is 30-500 mm/s.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X70-10 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X70-10 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×70 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -10 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 60-70 mm adjustable extend range and 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suit knocking light aluminium or plastic parts off a CNC jig face; the stop screw lets you tune the ejection distance without shimming.
About 60 N of usable clamping force holds small PCB assemblies or connector housings during a screw-driving or test cycle; the compact body fits inside a shallow fixture plate.
Order the -S magnet version to pair CMSE or DMSE switches with a 70 mm stroke moving a lightweight inspection cover or sensor arm at 30-500 mm/s.
Size by force first: at 0.5 MPa this bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull. If your load needs more, step up to the 20 mm bore (157.1 N push at 0.5 MPa); if less, the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N. Remember the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke within the 10 mm window - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. Mounting uses the FA/FB flange or LB foot on the ISO 21287 face. If you need position sensing, order the -S variant for the optional magnet. Since ACPJ is discontinued, spec ACEJ16X70 as the drop-in and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa, 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is double acting with a 16 mm bore, 70 mm stroke adjustable by 10 mm, M5x0.8 ports, 8 mm rod with female M4x0.7 thread, operating pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends.
The compact ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it bolts into tight jigs and gantries. The ACPJ16X70-10 itself is discontinued: swap to ACEJ16X70, the current-production successor in the same bore, stroke and force class, and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before the changeover.
