This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X70-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X70-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-20S

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-20S

Double acting and adjustable in stroke, the ACPJ16X70-20S is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder: a 16 mm bore driving an 8 mm rod through a 70 mm stroke, with a stop screw that trims the extend stroke by up to 20 mm so the working range is 50-70 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N, with a theoretical 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures and guarding where a full-length body cannot.

The -S code on this model means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body to report end positions. For sizing, plan on roughly 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa (about 0.6 of the rating), which lifts around 6 kg vertically - halve that to about 3 kg for a 2:1 margin on real part weight. The rod end is female M4x0.7, the port is M5x0.8, and the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70: confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP series is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X70-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Where the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-20S Is Used

precision_manufacturing

Small-part ejection from press dies

A 16 mm bore pushing 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick stamped terminals or plastic caps off a die face, and the 50-70 mm trim range lets the toolsetter match the eject distance without re-plumbing.

sensors

Position-verified test fixtures

With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm the rod has reached the trimmed end position on an electronics test jig, closing the fixture interlock before the test sequence starts.

compress

Bottle-capping and labelling heads

The short body, about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, tucks a 70 mm stroke capping or labelling head into the cramped head-space of a packaging line.

Replacing the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-20S with the ACEJ16X70-20S

At 16 mm bore this sits mid-range in the ACPJ family: the 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa if your load is lighter, while the 20 mm bore gives 157.1 N if you need more force in the same short envelope. The 70 mm stroke is within the 75 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so it is a catalogue item, and the -20 window lets you dial the extend stroke anywhere between 50 and 70 mm on site. Remember the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, and on air loss the piston still drifts. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Order the ACEJ16X70 as the current drop-in replacement.

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-20S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. For real work, plan on about 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 6 kg vertically - or about 3 kg with a 2:1 safety margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, air filtered to 40 um, temperature -20 to +70 C.

The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 70 mm extend stroke on site, giving a usable range of 50-70 mm. It shortens the stroke only - it never lengthens it past 70 mm, and it is a mechanical end stop, not a load-holding brake. Fixed TPU bumpers at both ends decelerate the piston at each end of travel. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, as the ACP is DIN-standard.
