This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X70-20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X70-20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-20 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70-20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X70-20 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable stroke: a stop screw trims the 70 mm extend stroke by up to 20 mm on site, giving a usable range of 50-70 mm. At 0.5 MPa the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull, rising to 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa. In practice, plan on roughly 60 N of usable work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin - enough for small clamps, gates and light parts in tight fixtures.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. A hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, and the rod ends in a female M4x0.7 thread with an M5x0.8 port. Note: this model is discontinued - the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X70-20 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X70-20 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×70 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 20 mm window lets a technician trim the 70 mm extend stroke between 50 and 70 mm to match varying part heights, with 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa for light ejection work.
The short body, about 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, fits between fixture walls, and the 60 N usable force holds small PCB carriers securely.
At 30-500 mm/s the rod deflects lightweight cartons or triggers a divert gate, and the female M4x0.7 rod thread accepts standard knuckle brackets.
Size against the load: the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa; step down to the 12 mm bore (56.5 N) for lighter work or up to the 20 mm bore (157.1 N) when more force is needed. The 70 mm stroke is within the 75 mm standard range for this bore. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not hold a load if air is lost. If you need position sensing, order the -S variant with the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches; this version has no magnet. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. For new builds, specify the ACEJ16X70 instead.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N. The theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window, so the 70 mm extend stroke can be trimmed to any length between 50 and 70 mm with the stop screw. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and speed is 30-500 mm/s.
Order the ACEJ16X70, the current-production ISO 21287 replacement: swap the P for an E and you get the same 16 mm bore, 70 mm stroke and force class in a matching short body. Because the ACP is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. If you need sensors, choose the -S code so the optional magnet is fitted for CMSE / DMSE switches; the fixed TPU bumpers and FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting carry over.
