This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X70-30 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X70-30 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-30 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70-30 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X70-30 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 70 mm stroke down by up to 30 mm, giving a usable 40-70 mm range set on site. It is discontinued - the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70, an ISO 21287 drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class. At 0.5 MPa this bore pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N, so plan on roughly 60 N (about 6 kg) of real work rather than the full rating.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot fit. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers at both ends, and an M5x0.8 port. Vertically it lifts about 5 kg with a 2:1 margin. FA/FB flanges and LB feet bolt to the standard face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches - without it no magnet is fitted.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X70-30 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X70-30 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Trims the extend stroke between 40 and 70 mm to clamp small aluminium or plastic workpieces with about 100 N of push force at 0.5 MPa.
The 40-70 mm adjustable range positions light carrier slides on packaging and lab machines where a full-length body will not fit.
Pushes finished caps or connectors off shallow mold cavities, lifting parts of about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.
Size both ways: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N - choose the 16 mm when 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull cover the job. The 70 mm stroke is within the 75 mm standard for this bore. Remember the -30 adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only; on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a load-holding lock. If you need position sensing, order the -S version so CMSE / DMSE switches can be used. For new builds, specify the ACEJ16X70 and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 140.7 N and pull to 105.6 N. The theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the port is M5x0.8. The -30 stop screw shortens the 70 mm extend stroke by up to 30 mm.
The external stop screw on the head shortens the extend stroke within the ordered 30 mm window, so the effective range is 40-70 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 70 mm. It is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock. Position sensing requires the optional -S magnet ordered with the cylinder - without it no magnet is fitted and no CMSE / DMSE switch can be mounted. This model is discontinued; the ACEJ16X70 is the current ISO 21287 drop-in.
