This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X70-40B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X70-40B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-40B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70-40B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ16X70-40B runs a 16 mm bore over a 70 mm stroke that a stop screw can trim by up to 40 mm, giving a usable 30-70 mm range. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N, with a theoretical 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The hard-anodized aluminium body keeps the mounting length roughly half that of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures and guarding. Note this model is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ISO 21287 ACEJ16X70.
For sizing, plan on about 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 100.5 N rating, which is roughly 6 kg of horizontal push or about 5 kg lifted vertically with a 2:1 margin. The male rod thread (B code) suits external knuckles, the M5x0.8 ports depend on the bore, and fixed TPU bumpers decelerate the piston at both ends. Speed range is 30-500 mm/s across 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi). No magnet is fitted on this version; order the -S code if you need CMSE / DMSE switch positions.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X70-40B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X70-40B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×70 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 30-70 mm adjustable range lets one cylinder eject plastic housings of varying depths from a nest, with about 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa enough for light parts.
Trimmed via the stop screw to match carton pitch, the 16 mm bore holds a stop pin against 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa; the male rod thread accepts a standard knuckle.
Compact body fits inside a bench-top guard where a full-length profile cylinder will not, delivering 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa for gentle pressing of vials or slides.
At 16 mm bore this sits mid-range: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa for lighter clamps, while the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N when the load needs more. The 70 mm stroke is within the 75 mm standard for this bore, and the -40 window lets one cylinder serve several stroke points on the same jig. Remember the stop screw only trims the extend stroke; it is not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flanges and LB feet bolt to the ISO 21287 face. Since ACPJ is discontinued, order the ACEJ16X70 and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa, 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 70 mm extend stroke on site, so the working range is 30-70 mm. It shortens only, never lengthens past 70 mm, and the stop is not a load-holding brake.
The ACPJ family is discontinued. The current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70 (ISO 21287), the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard. This version has no magnet, so no CMSE / DMSE switch can be mounted; the optional -S code adds the magnet for sensing. Mounting: FA/FB flange or LB foot on the standard face, M5x0.8 ports, fixed TPU bumpers at both ends.
