This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X70-40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X70-40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X70-40S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable stroke: a stop screw trims the 70 mm extend stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 30-70 mm on site. Its ISO 21287 short body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke sensing.
At 0.5 MPa the 16 mm bore pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 140.7 N push. As a working rule, plan on roughly 60 N (about 6 kg) of real pushing effort at 0.5 MPa, and expect it to lift about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note that this model is DISCONTINUED: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X70, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, and speed runs 30-500 mm/s.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X70-40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X70-40S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Trims the extend stroke between 30 and 70 mm to kick finished 5 kg-class parts off a mold table, with CMSE switches confirming ejection when the -S magnet is fitted.
The short ISO 21287 body fits between conveyor frames, and the 40 mm window lets technicians retune divert stroke for different carton sizes without swapping cylinders.
About 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa is enough to seat vials or microplate lids in a compact bench fixture where a full-length profile cylinder cannot fit.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is more than the job needs, the ACPJ12X70-40S gives 56.5 N; if the load demands more, step up to the ACPJ20X70-40S at 157.1 N. The 70 mm stroke is within the 75 mm standard limit for bore 16, so no made-to-order build is required. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not hold position if air is lost, so add an external stop for load holding. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the ISO 21287 face. Since this unit is discontinued, order the ACEJ16X70 as the current replacement and verify mounting dimensions against the ISO 21287 datasheet.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 140.7 N and pull 105.6 N. The theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), and speed 30-500 mm/s. The port is M5x0.8 and the female rod thread is M4x0.7.
The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 70 mm extend stroke by up to 40 mm, so the working range is 30-70 mm. It cannot lengthen the stroke past 70 mm, and the stop is not a load-holding brake. This model is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ16X70 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
