This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X70-50B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X70-50B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-50B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70-50B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -50 code gives a 50 mm window, so the stop screw trims the 70 mm stroke anywhere down to 20 mm on site. Bore 16 mm delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa), with a male rod thread (B code) on the 8 mm rod and M5x0.8 ports. Note: the ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X70, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs and guarded stations. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, a fixed TPU bumper at each end, and runs 30-500 mm/s at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi). No magnet is fitted on this version (no -S code), so no CMSE or DMSE switch can be mounted. For planning: treat roughly 60 N (about 6 kg lifted vertically with a 2:1 margin) as the usable push force at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X70-50B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X70-50B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×70 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 50 mm trim window lets one fixture clamp housings from 20 to 70 mm thick without re-fixturing, using the 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa for light plastic or aluminium parts.
The short body, about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, fits between station plates where a full-length body cannot, ejecting small stamped parts with the male-threaded 8 mm rod.
Set the extend stroke between 20 and 70 mm to stop different carton heights at an infeed gate; the fixed TPU bumper quiets the end of travel at 30-500 mm/s.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal for your tooling mass, step up to bore 20 (157.1 N push at 0.5 MPa); if the load is light and space is tighter, bore 12 gives 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa. The 50 mm window suits stations where one cylinder serves several product sizes between 20 and 70 mm of stroke. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not lock the piston if air is lost, so add external stops for load holding. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the ISO 21287 face. Since this model is discontinued, order the ACEJ16X70 as the current replacement and verify mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 140.7 N and pull to 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -50 code gives a 50 mm adjustment window, so the extend stroke is trimmed anywhere from 20 to 70 mm with the external stop screw. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and speed is 30-500 mm/s.
Only if the optional -S magnet was ordered - this version (no S code) has no magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches cannot be fitted. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70, a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN-standard footprint.
