This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X70-50 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X70-50 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-50 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70-50 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ16X70-50 delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (140.7 N / 105.6 N at 0.7 MPa) from a 16 mm bore. A stop screw trims the 70 mm stroke by up to 50 mm, so one cylinder covers a 20-70 mm working range without changing parts. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight fixtures and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.
Note this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. The 16 mm bore lifts about 6 kg vertically at 0.5 MPa, or roughly 3 kg with a 2:1 margin, so match your part weight accordingly. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt straight on, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches; without -S there is no magnet.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X70-50 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X70-50 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×70 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
With 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, the 16 mm bore reliably kicks plastic clips or stamped terminals out of a nest, and the 50 mm window lets one cylinder serve several nest depths.
Order the -S code to add CMSE / DMSE switches so a PLC confirms the rod reached the trimmed stop before the fixture indexes; without -S there is no magnet to sense.
About 60 N of usable clamping force at 0.5 MPa holds light covers during leak or electrical testing, and the short body fits inside the guard envelope.
Size it against neighbours: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while stepping up to 20 mm raises that to 157.1 N - pick 16 mm when your load sits between those. Plan on about 60 N (roughly 6 kg vertical) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounting fit standard fixtures, the optional -S magnet pairs with CMSE / DMSE switches, and the ACEJ16X70 is the current drop-in successor.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -50 code is a 50 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 70 mm extend stroke by up to 50 mm, giving a usable 20-70 mm range. It shortens the stroke only - it never extends past 70 mm.
It is a compact short-body cylinder with a hard-anodized aluminium body, S45C hard-chrome rod, M5x0.8 ports, a female M4x0.7 rod thread, fixed TPU bumpers at both ends and a speed range of 30-500 mm/s. The body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. The ACPJ family is discontinued, so order the ACEJ16X70 as the current drop-in and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before the swap.
