This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X70-75B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X70-75B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X70-75B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X70-75B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ16X70-75B trims its extend stroke on site with an external stop screw: the -75 code sets a 75 mm window, so the usable extend range runs from 0 up to the full 70 mm stroke. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those figures rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N. The male rod thread (B code) bolts straight to I/Y knuckles. Note this model is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X70, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends and simply decelerates the piston - it never locks or brakes a load, and on air loss the piston still drifts. For sizing, plan on roughly 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 0.6 of the push rating), which is a vertical lift of about 5 kg - halve that to roughly 2.5 kg for a 2:1 margin. No magnet is fitted on this version; order the -S code to enable CMSE / DMSE switches.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X70-75B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X70-75B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×70 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -75 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to seat small terminals or dowel pins in electronics assembly, and the 0-70 mm adjustable range lets one cylinder serve several part heights.
With about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, this 16 mm bore clamps aluminium machined parts inside dense drilling jigs where space is scarce.
Order the -S magnet version and add CMSE / DMSE switches to confirm part ejection on a pick-and-place gantry; the male rod thread takes a knuckle directly.
At 16 mm bore this sits mid-range: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa for lighter clamping, while the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N when you need more force in the same short envelope. The 70 mm stroke is within the 75 mm maximum standard stroke for bore 16, so no made-to-order build is required. Match FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts to the ISO 21287 face, and remember the stop screw shortens the extend stroke only - it is not a mid-stroke lock. Since ACPJ is discontinued, order the ACEJ16X70 as the current replacement and verify mounting dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -75 code gives a 75 mm adjustment window, so the stop screw can trim the 70 mm extend stroke anywhere from 0 to 70 mm. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, port M5x0.8, rod 8 mm with male thread.
It is a short ISO 21287-class compact cylinder with a hard-anodized aluminium body, S45C hard-chrome rod and a fixed TPU bumper at both ends that only decelerates - it never holds a load. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. Switches are CMSE / DMSE, but only when you order the optional -S magnet; this B-code version has no magnet fitted. The model is discontinued, so specify the ACEJ16X70 replacement and confirm ISO 21287 dimensions.
