This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE100X20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE100X20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X20SB

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X20SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø100mm bore and 20mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE100X20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X20SB

The ASP100X20SB is a single acting push cylinder, spring return: air extends the 25 mm rod and the internal spring retracts it, so one air line is all the plumbing needs. This is the largest bore in the family - 3640.7 N of push at 0.5 MPa (5211.5 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring - delivered from a hard-anodized aluminium body that saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. The S code means the optional -S magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke signalling, and the B code gives a male rod thread.

Practical sizing: treat roughly 2184 N (about 0.6 of the 0.5 MPa rating) as the usable push for real work, which lifts about 185 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the rod; on air loss the spring returns it home rather than holding a mid-stroke position. Operating range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 0.2 MPa needed to beat the spring, speed 50-500 mm/s, and a 1/4" port. Note this ASP model is discontinued - the current-production replacement is the ASE100X20 (ISO 21287), so confirm mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE100X20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø100mm)

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X20SB Is Used

factory

Press-fit ejection in aluminium die-casting cells

The 3640.7 N push at 0.5 MPa ejects chilled castings from shallow die pockets, and the spring return clears the rod the moment air is dumped - useful where a stuck part must not stay clamped.

forklift

Pallet-stacker brake and latch actuation

About 185 kg of vertical-lift equivalent at a 2:1 margin covers spring-applied latch pins and detent plungers on warehouse handling equipment, with the 20 mm stroke matching short cam-over linkages.

settings

Clamping fixtures on CNC machining centres

The compact short body tucks inside fixture plates where a full-length profile cylinder will not fit, and the fitted -S magnet with a DMSE switch confirms clamp-on before the cycle start signal.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X20SB with the ASE100X20SB

At bore 100 nothing in the ASP range out-pushes it: 3640.7 N at 0.5 MPa against 2316.2 N for the 80 mm bore, so step down only if your load is under roughly 1400 N of usable force. If you need double-acting control or a pull stroke, look at the ACE (double acting) or ATP (single-acting pull) families instead. The male rod thread (B code) suits external knuckles and tooling plates; FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis mounts bolt straight to the ISO 21287 face. Because the spring returns the rod on air loss, it will not hold an arbitrary mid-stroke position - add a locking feature externally if that matters. Order the ASE100X20 as the current drop-in successor.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE100X20SB
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X20SB FAQ

It is a single acting push, spring-return cylinder: 3640.7 N of push at 0.5 MPa and 5211.5 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa (needed to overcome the spring), the operating band is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof pressure is 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed is 50-500 mm/s, and the 100 mm bore uses a 1/4" port with a 25 mm rod in male thread (B code).

AirTAC no longer produces the ASP family. The current-production replacement is the ASE100X20 (swap the P for an E), an ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class with a matching short body and mounting family. Because the ASP is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping. Your existing CMSE / DMSE switches carry over if you order the ASE with the -S magnet option.
