This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE100X5S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE100X5S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5S

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5S is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø100mm bore and 5mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE100X5S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5S

This is a single acting push cylinder with spring return: air extends the 25 mm rod and the internal spring retracts it, so only one air line is needed and the rod sits retracted whenever pressure drops. The 100 mm bore delivers 3640.7 N of push at 0.5 MPa (5211.5 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring, and it needs just 0.2 MPa to overcome the spring. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight clamping stations and guarded assemblies. Note that the ASP family is discontinued; ASE100X5 is the current-production successor in the same bore, stroke and force class.

Because this unit carries the -S code, the magnet is fitted and CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the hard-anodized aluminium body for end-of-stroke signalling. The fixed TPU bumper at both ends decelerates the rod without any adjustment. For sizing, the 3640.7 N push at 0.5 MPa converts to about 371 kgf, so plan on lifting roughly 185 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin, or commit about 2184 N to real work.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE100X5S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø100mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)

0.7 MPa5211.5 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5S Is Used

compress

Bearing seating press

The 3640.7 N push at 0.5 MPa seats small bearings or bushings into housings on an assembly bench, and the spring retracts the ram the moment the valve vents.

precision_manufacturing

Fixture clamp on a CNC pallet

A 5 mm stroke is enough to swing a clamp shoe onto a machined casting; the short body fits under the pallet guard where a full-length cylinder would not.

sensors

Presence check with switch feedback

With the fitted -S magnet and a DMSE switch, the station PLC confirms the part is present when the rod reaches its 5 mm working position.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5S with the ASE100X5S

At 100 mm bore this is the top of the range: 3640.7 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 2316.2 N for an 80 mm bore, so step down to 80 mm if your clamp needs less than about 2300 N. The 5 mm stroke is well inside the standard range for this bore, and the female M16x1.5 rod thread plus 1/4" PT port keeps plumbing straightforward. On air loss the spring drives the rod home to retracted, so it will not hold a mid-stroke position under load. If you need position feedback, this -S version accepts CMSE / DMSE switches; FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis brackets match the mounting face. Since the ASP is discontinued, order ASE100X5 as the drop-in and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before the swap.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE100X5S
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5S FAQ

Push is 3640.7 N at 0.5 MPa and 5211.5 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa (28 psi), the operating range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof, speed is 50-500 mm/s, and the 1/4" PT port suits the 100 mm bore. Air filtered to 40 um is required, and the fluid temperature range is -20 to +70 C.

This model is no longer in production. The current drop-in is ASE100X5, the ISO 21287 successor with the same 100 mm bore, 5 mm stroke and force class. Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture, since the ASP was built to a DIN-standard compact pattern.
