The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X5 is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 5mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE12X5 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP12X5 uses a 12 mm bore and a 5 mm stroke to deliver 40 N of thrust at 0.5 MPa (62.7 N at 0.7 MPa), figures already net of the return spring. Air extends the rod; the spring retracts it to the home position, so one air line is all the plumbing needs and the rod parks retracted whenever pressure drops. The hard-anodized aluminium body keeps the ISO 21287-class short build, which saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder.
For sizing, treat about 24 N (0.6 of the 40 N rating) as the realistic working force at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 2 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The 6 mm S45C hard-chrome rod ends in a female M3x0.5 thread, and the fixed TPU bumpers at both ends simply decelerate the stroke ends. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is the ASE12X5, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 5 mm nudge is enough to confirm a connector or PCB fixture is seated before a pick cycle starts; the spring retracts the probe the moment air is removed.
With 40 N at 0.5 MPa the cylinder tips small housings off a nest into a chute, and the single air line keeps the fixture wiring simple.
About 24 N of usable force holds a sensor cap or small bracket in place during a 10-second electrical test, releasing automatically on air loss.
At 40 N push at 0.5 MPa, this bore suits light eject, index and detect tasks; step down is not available below 12 mm, while the 16 mm bore gives 78.4 N if you need more margin. The 5 mm stroke sits well inside the standard range for this bore, so no made-to-order stroke applies. Choose the -S code only if you want the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches; without it no sensor can be fitted. FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis mounts bolt to the standard face. Since the ASP12X5 is discontinued, order the ASE12X5 as the drop-in successor and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
Net of the return spring, push force is 40 N at 0.5 MPa and 62.7 N at 0.7 MPa. Working pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure; at least 0.2 MPa is required to overcome the spring. Speed range is 50-500 mm/s, air must be filtered to 40 um, and the temperature range is -20 to +70 C. The port is M5x0.8 and the rod thread is female M3x0.5.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it fits shallow jigs and guards. Switches are possible only with the optional -S magnet code, which enables CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches; the base ASP12X5 carries no magnet. This model is discontinued, and the ASE12X5 is the current drop-in replacement.
