This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE16X10B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE16X10B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP16X10B

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP16X10B is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 10mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE16X10B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP16X10B

The ASP16X10B is a single acting push cylinder with spring return: air extends the 8 mm rod and the internal spring retracts it, so one air line is all the plumbing needs. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 78.4 N of push already net of the spring (118.6 N at 0.7 MPa), and it starts working from just 0.2 MPa. The 10 mm stroke suits tiny clamp-and-eject moves, and the male rod thread (the B code) takes standard I/Y knuckles directly. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ASE16X10, same bore, stroke and force class.

Built as a short-body compact cylinder on a hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod, it saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slips into tight fixture pockets and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. A fixed TPU bumper at each end softens end-of-travel contact. Note this code carries no magnet: the optional -S version is what enables CMSE / DMSE switches. As a sizing rule of thumb, plan on about 47 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 4 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE16X10B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø16mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)

0.7 MPa118.6 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP16X10B Is Used

compress

Micro part clamping

Clamps small electronics housings or connector blocks in a test fixture; the 78.4 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough for light hold-down, and the 10 mm stroke clears quickly.

vertical_align_bottom

Ejecting tiny stamped parts

Pushes finished micro stampings off a die or nest on a high-speed press line; the spring return resets the pin automatically between cycles at 50-500 mm/s.

science

Lab and packaging gate

Swings or stops small vials and sachets on a compact benchtop conveyor; the short body fits inside tight guarding, and the male rod thread accepts a knuckle for a lever arm.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP16X10B with the ASE16X10B

Size both ways: if 78.4 N at 0.5 MPa is more than the job needs, the bore 12 unit gives 40 N; if it falls short, step up to bore 20 for 127.4 N. Remember the spring drives the rod home on air loss, so this cylinder will not hold a mid-stroke position. Match FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounts to your fixture, and order the -S code only if CMSE / DMSE sensing is required. For new designs, specify the ASE16X10 instead and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE16X10B
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP16X10B FAQ

Push is 78.4 N at 0.5 MPa and 118.6 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Operating pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure; it needs at least 0.2 MPa to overcome the spring. Speed range is 50-500 mm/s, fluid is air filtered to 40 um, and temperature spans -20 to +70 C. The rod is 8 mm with a male thread, the port is M5x0.8, and the bore 16 max standard stroke is 75 mm.

The ASP family is no longer in production. The current drop-in is the ASE16X10 (swap the P for an E): same 16 mm bore, 10 mm stroke and force class in the ISO 21287 short-body format. Because the ASP was DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping, and remember the magnet is only present when the -S code is ordered.
