This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE20X10 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE20X10 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X10

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X10 is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 10mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE20X10 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X10

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP20X10 uses shop air to extend its 10 mm rod and an internal spring to retract it, so only one air line is needed. At the 20 mm bore it delivers 127.4 N of push at 0.5 MPa (190.2 N at 0.7 MPa), figures already net of the spring. Minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa, and the speed range is 50-500 mm/s. Note: this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ASE20X10 in the same bore, stroke and force class.

The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits cramped jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot fit. Because the push force is 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa, plan on about 76 N (roughly 7.8 kg) of real vertical work, or lift about 3.9 kg with a 2:1 margin. The rod carries a female M6x1.0 thread, the port is M5x0.8, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends. No magnet is fitted on this code; order the -S version if you need CMSE or DMSE switch sensing.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE20X10 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X10 Is Used

compress

PCB fixture clamping

The 127.4 N push at 0.5 MPa seats small circuit boards into a test nest, and the spring retracts the 10 mm rod the moment air is released.

packaging

Blister pack ejection

A short 10 mm kick from the 20 mm bore nudges finished blisters off a forming station at up to 500 mm/s without disturbing the web.

science

Lab sample indexing

Single acting push action advances microplate trays one position in a compact analyzer head where a full-length body will not fit.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X10 with the ASE20X10

Size by force: if 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa is marginal for your clamp or eject load, step up to the 25 mm bore (210.1 N); if the load is light and space is tight, the 16 mm bore (78.4 N) may be enough. The 10 mm stroke is well inside the standard range for this bore, so no made-to-order stroke is needed. Match FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounting to your fixture, and add the -S magnet code only if CMSE/DMSE position sensing is required. On air loss the spring returns the rod home, so it will not hold a mid-stroke position. For new designs, specify the ASE20X10 instead and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE20X10
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X10 FAQ

Net of the return spring, the 20 mm bore pushes 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa and 190.2 N at 0.7 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, air filtered to 40 um, temperature -20 to +70 C, and speed 50-500 mm/s. Air extends the rod; the spring retracts it. In practice, budget about 76 N (roughly 3.9 kg vertical lift with a 2:1 margin) rather than the full rating.

The short ISO 21287-class aluminium body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a female M6x1.0 rod thread and M5x08-style M5x0.8 port. A fixed TPU bumper decelerates the rod at each end. Sensing requires the optional -S magnet code, which enables CMSE or DMSE switches; this standard ASP20X10 has no magnet fitted. The model is discontinued - the ASE20X10 is the current drop-in, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
