This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE20X25SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE20X25SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X25SB

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X25SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 25mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE20X25SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X25SB

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the discontinued ASP20X25SB extends its 10 mm rod on air and retracts on the spring, needing only one air line and a minimum of 0.2 MPa to beat the spring. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 127.4 N net of the spring (190.2 N at 0.7 MPa), and the short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guards. The male rod thread (B code) and the fitted -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches are built into this code.

For sizing, treat about 76 N (0.6 of the 0.5 MPa push) as the usable working force, which lifts roughly 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries a fixed TPU bumper at both ends, the rod is S45C hard chrome, and speed runs 50-500 mm/s at 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi). Since the ASP is discontinued, order the ASE20X25 as the current drop-in and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE20X25SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø20mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)
0.5 MPa127.4 N
0.7 MPa190.2 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

SOptional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet).
BRod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X25SB Is Used

compress

PCB fixture clamping

Springs a hold-down pad onto a circuit board in a test nest, where the 76 N working force is enough and one air line keeps plumbing simple.

packaging

Carton kick-off ejector

Nudges a small carton off a conveyor staging plate at a packaging station; the spring retracts the pusher the moment air is removed.

science

Lab slide gate actuator

Opens a sample gate in compact analytical equipment, with the -S magnet and a DMSE switch confirming the gate is fully extended.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X25SB with the ASE20X25SB

At 127.4 N push at 0.5 MPa, this 20 mm bore suits light clamping and eject tasks; step down to a 16 mm bore (78.4 N) for lighter loads or up to 25 mm (210.1 N) when you need roughly 65% more force. Remember the spring returns the rod home on air loss, so it will not hold a mid-stroke position. The male rod thread pairs with I/Y knuckles, and FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounts bolt to the same face. For new projects, specify the ASE20X25 replacement.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE20X25SB
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X25SB FAQ

Push is 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa and 190.2 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Plan on about 76 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, roughly a 6 kg vertical lift with a 2:1 margin. It needs at least 0.2 MPa to overcome the spring, runs 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) at 50-500 mm/s, and takes a 10 mm male-thread rod with an M5x0.8 port.

Order the ASE20X25, the current-production ISO 21287 successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same 20 mm bore, 25 mm stroke and force class in a short compact body. Check the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping, since the ASP was built to a DIN-standard footprint, and confirm remaining dimensions from the datasheet.
