This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE25X5S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE25X5S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP25X5S is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø25mm bore and 5mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE25X5S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP25X5S uses shop air to extend its rod and an internal spring to retract it, so one air line is all the plumbing a 25 mm bore, 5 mm stroke actuator needs. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 210.1 N of push, already net of the spring, rising to 308.3 N at 0.7 MPa. The magnet fitted under the -S code lets you clip CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into cramped indexing fixtures and slide clamps. For sizing, treat about 0.6 of the 0.5 MPa force as usable work, roughly 126 N, which lifts about 10 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued: the current drop-in is the ASE25X5, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE25X5S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force (spring return) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 210.1 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 308.3 N |
Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.
| ASP | DIN compact cylinder (single-acting push, spring-return, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 25 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×5 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 5 mm kick clears a pressed small bearing out of a locating nest on an electric-motor assembly bench; 210.1 N at 0.5 MPa is ample for the part weight.
The -S magnet with a DMSE switch signals clamp-made on a PCB test fixture, and the spring retracts the probe the moment air drops.
On a carton-sealing head, the short body tucks under the guard frame and the 5 mm stroke flips the flap without disturbing adjacent tooling.
Compare both directions before ordering: the 20 mm bore gives 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa for lighter eject tasks, while the 32 mm bore reaches 352.5 N when the part weight grows. The 5 mm stroke sits well inside the standard range for this bore, so no made-to-order length is involved. The female M6x1.0 rod thread accepts I/Y knuckles directly, and FA/FB flange or LB foot brackets bolt to the same face. Because the spring drives the rod home on air loss, do not rely on it to hold a mid-stroke position. Order the ASE25X5 as the current-production replacement.
Replacement checklist
Push is 210.1 N at 0.5 MPa and 308.3 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Working pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 0.2 MPa as the minimum to beat the spring, proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), air filtered to 40 um, speed 50-500 mm/s, and temperature -20 to +70 C. The port is M5x0.8 and the rod thread is female M6x1.0.
The spring retracts the rod to its home position whenever air is lost, so it is not a mid-stroke holding device; a fixed TPU bumper at each end simply decelerates travel. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches mount directly on the body. Since the ASP is discontinued, plan the swap to the ASE25X5 and verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
