AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE32X20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE32X20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP32X20 is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø32mm bore and 20mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE32X20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ASP32X20 is a single acting push cylinder with spring return: air extends the 12 mm rod and the spring retracts it, so one air line is enough. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 352.5 N of push force net of the spring (513.4 N at 0.7 MPa), and it needs at least 0.2 MPa to overcome the spring. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it fits cramped jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not.
Practical sizing: treat about 210 N (0.6 x 352.5 N) as the usable force at 0.5 MPa, which corresponds to lifting roughly 10 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries a fixed TPU bumper at both ends, and the female M8x1.25 rod thread takes standard I/Y knuckles. Note this model is discontinued - the current-production replacement is the ASE32X20, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 352.5 N push at 0.5 MPa clamps small aluminium brackets during drilling, and the spring retracts the platen instantly when air drops.
A 20 mm stroke is enough to nudge a folded carton off a conveyor lane at up to 500 mm/s, with the spring clearing the lane between cycles.
Order the -S magnet and a CMSE switch to confirm a part is seated in a gauge before the next station indexes.
At 0.5 MPa this 32 mm bore pushes 352.5 N net of the spring; the 25 mm bore manages 210.1 N and the 40 mm bore 556.8 N, so step up or down to match the load. Because the spring drives the rod home on air loss, do not use it to hold a mid-stroke position. Mounting options are FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis; if you need position feedback, order the -S code for the optional magnet so CMSE or DMSE switches can be fitted - without -S there is no magnet. This model is discontinued; the ASE32X20 is the drop-in successor in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Replacement checklist
Push force is 352.5 N at 0.5 MPa and 513.4 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Operating pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure; at least 0.2 MPa is required to beat the spring. Order the ASE32X20, the current-production ISO 21287 successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same 32 mm bore, 20 mm stroke and force class. Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture, and add the -S code there if you want the optional magnet for CMSE or DMSE switches.
