This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE32X5SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE32X5SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP32X5SB

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP32X5SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø32mm bore and 5mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE32X5SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP32X5SB

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP32X5SB extends its 12 mm rod with compressed air and lets the internal spring retract it, so only one air line is needed. This 32 mm bore size delivers 352.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa (513.4 N at 0.7 MPa), figures already net of the spring, and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. The male rod thread (B code) and the optional -S magnet that this model carries for CMSE / DMSE switches make it easy to bolt into existing fixtures and wire position feedback.

The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight clamping nests and guard assemblies. In practice, plan on about 212 N of usable work at 0.5 MPa (a 0.6 rule of thumb), which corresponds to lifting roughly 18 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note that this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ASE32X5, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE32X5SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø32mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)
0.5 MPa352.5 N
0.7 MPa513.4 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP32X5SB Is Used

compress

PCB fixture hold-down

The 5 mm stroke and 352.5 N push at 0.5 MPa are enough to clamp a circuit board against a nest on a test bench, with the spring releasing the board the moment air drops.

sensors

Part-present confirmation

With the -S magnet fitted, a CMSE or DMSE switch signals rod extension so an injection-molding gate can verify a small insert was loaded before the cycle starts.

packaging

Carton flap kickers

On a packaging line, the short body fits beside a conveyor guard and the spring-return kick flips a flap at up to 500 mm/s without a second valve port.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP32X5SB with the ASE32X5SB

At 352.5 N push (0.5 MPa) this 32 mm bore sits between the 25 mm size (210.1 N) and the 40 mm size (556.8 N) in the same family, so step down if your load is light and you want a smaller envelope, or up if you need more margin. The 5 mm stroke is a standard short stroke, ideal for confirm-present or eject tasks rather than long travel. Because the spring returns the rod home on air loss, do not rely on it to hold a mid-stroke position. If you need double-acting control instead, look at the ACP line, also replaced by ACE. Order this discontinued model only as a like-for-like swap; ASE32X5 is the current drop-in, and FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis mounts carry over - verify ISO 21287 dimensions first.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE32X5SB
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP32X5SB FAQ

This single acting push cylinder gives 352.5 N at 0.5 MPa and 513.4 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Working pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof, speed is 50-500 mm/s, the port is 1/8" PT, and the rod end is male thread. Air extends the rod; the spring retracts it, so on air loss the rod returns home rather than holding position.

The hard-anodized aluminium body follows the short ISO 21287-class format, saving about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end. The ASP family is discontinued; ASE32X5 is the current-production drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, and remember the magnet here is the optional -S code, not standard on every unit.
