AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE40X10B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE40X10B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X10B is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 10mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE40X10B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP40X10B extends its 12 mm rod with air and retracts on the built-in spring, so only one air line is needed. This discontinued 40 mm bore model delivers 556.8 N of push at 0.5 MPa (808.1 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring. Its short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.
Practically, plan on about 334 N of usable work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating; vertically that means the rod lifts roughly 28 kg with a 2:1 margin, enough for ejecting small castings or clamping light fixtures. The male rod thread (B code) suits external rod knuckles, and the fixed TPU bumper at both ends simply decelerates the rod. Replacement is the current-production ASE40X10 - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since this model follows the DIN-standard footprint.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 556.8 N push at 0.5 MPa ejects cooled plastic parts from shallow mold cavities, and the spring retracts the rod the moment air is vented.
A 10 mm stroke clamps small aluminium brackets in a machining jig; the short body fits where an ISO 15552 profile cylinder would overhang the fixture.
Spring return keeps the pad lifted between cycles, then air pressure presses carton flaps down at roughly 28 kg vertical equivalent.
At 40 mm bore you sit mid-range: the 32 mm size gives 352.5 N at 0.5 MPa if your load is lighter, while the 50 mm bore pushes 875.5 N when you need more clamping force at the same 0.5 MPa supply. Remember the spring returns the rod to its retracted home on air loss - it will not hold a mid-stroke position under load. If you need position sensing, order the -S variant to enable CMSE / DMSE switches; this plain ASP40X10B has no magnet fitted. Mounting brackets FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis bolt to the standard face. For new projects, specify the ASE40X10 instead, as this model is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
Push is 556.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 808.1 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa (28 psi) to overcome the spring; the range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with proof pressure of 1.5 MPa (215 psi). Speed runs 50-500 mm/s and the fluid is air filtered to 40 um.
The ASP family is no longer in production. The current drop-in is the ASE40X10, which keeps the same 40 mm bore, 10 mm stroke and force class in the ISO 21287 short-body format. Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture, since this model follows the DIN-standard footprint. Also note the magnet is optional: only the -S code accepts CMSE / DMSE switches.
