This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE40X10SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE40X10SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X10SB

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X10SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 10mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE40X10SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X10SB

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP40X10SB extends its 12 mm rod with air and retracts it by spring, so one air line is all the plumbing takes. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 556.8 N of push, already net of the spring, and 808.1 N at 0.7 MPa. The 10 mm stroke sits inside the standard range for the 40 mm bore, and the short ISO 21287-style body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.

This unit carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke signalling, and the B code gives a male rod thread instead of a female one. A fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the rod, and the hard-anodized aluminium body with S45C hard-chrome rod stands up to shop-floor duty. In practice the 556.8 N rating means you should plan on about 334 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which is roughly 34 kg of vertical lift capability at a 2:1 margin. Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is the ASE40X10, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE40X10SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø40mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)
0.5 MPa556.8 N
0.7 MPa808.1 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Model Code: Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X10SB

ASPDIN compact cylinder (single-acting push, spring-return, discontinued).
40Bore size in mm.

SOptional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet).
BRod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X10SB Is Used

compress

Bench press clamping

The 556.8 N push at 0.5 MPa holds small aluminium brackets against a drill jig on a machine-shop bench, with the spring clearing the part the moment air drops.

packaging

Carton kick-off on packing lines

A 10 mm stroke is enough to nudge a folded carton into a forming pocket on a packaging machine, and the single air line keeps the manifold simple.

sensors

Presence check with switching

With the -S magnet fitted, a DMSE switch confirms the rod is fully extended before a vision camera triggers on an electronics assembly cell.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X10SB with the ASE40X10SB

Size the bore against the load: the 32 mm bore gives 352.5 N at 0.5 MPa while the 50 mm bore reaches 875.5 N, so the 40 mm at 556.8 N sits in the middle for medium clamping and positioning jobs. Because the spring drives the rod home on air loss, the cylinder always returns to the retracted position and will not hold a mid-stroke setting. If you need flange, foot or clevis mounting, or a female rod thread instead of the male thread on this B-coded unit, match the mounting code when ordering. This model is discontinued, so spec the ASE40X10 as the drop-in successor and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE40X10SB
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X10SB FAQ

Push force is 556.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 808.1 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa (28-145 psi operating range, 1.5 MPa / 215 psi proof). It runs on air filtered to 40 um at 50-500 mm/s, from -20 to +70 C, through a 1/8" port.

The B code gives a male rod thread on the 12 mm rod; the port thread is PT. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches mount directly on the body for end-of-stroke detection. Since the ASP40X10SB is discontinued, order the ASE40X10 replacement and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
