This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE80X15SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE80X15SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X15SB

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X15SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø80mm bore and 15mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE80X15SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X15SB

Single acting push cylinder with spring return: air extends the 20 mm rod and the internal spring pulls it back home, so one air line is all the plumbing takes. At 0.5 MPa this 80 mm bore delivers 2316.2 N of push, already net of the spring, rising to 3321.5 N at 0.7 MPa; the spring needs at least 0.2 MPa to be overcome. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into clamping fixtures and machine guards where a full-length body cannot. This model is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is ASE80X15, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Practical sizing: plan on about 1390 N of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating, which corresponds to lifting roughly 118 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries a fixed TPU bumper at both ends, and because this is the S-coded version the magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be bolted on for end-of-stroke detection. The B code gives a male rod thread and the ports are 1/4".

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE80X15SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø80mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)
0.5 MPa2316.2 N
0.7 MPa3321.5 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

SOptional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet).
BRod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X15SB Is Used

compress

Press-fit bushing insertion

A 15 mm stroke is enough to seat bushings into housings on an automotive subassembly line, where 2316.2 N at 0.5 MPa overcomes a light interference fit and the spring retracts the tooling clear for loading.

pan_tool

Pallet clamp on a CNC fixture

Mounted by flange under a swing clamp arm, the cylinder holds a cast aluminium pallet against a locator; losing air releases the clamp automatically because the spring returns the rod.

packaging

Carton kick-off on a case packer

A short push of about 118 kg lift equivalent nudges formed cartons from an infeed lane onto a conveyor, with a CMSE switch on the fitted magnet confirming each extend cycle.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X15SB with the ASE80X15SB

Compare force classes at 0.5 MPa: the 63 mm bore pushes 1420.5 N while the 100 mm bore reaches 3640.7 N, so this 80 mm sits squarely between them at 2316.2 N. If your part weight is under about 118 kg with a 2:1 vertical margin, this bore is the right pick; go smaller to save air, larger for heavy clamping. Mount with FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis brackets, and note that on air loss the spring retracts the rod - it will not hold a mid-stroke position. Since ASP is discontinued, order the ASE80X15 replacement and verify the ISO 21287 mounting footprint first.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE80X15SB
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X15SB FAQ

Push force is 2316.2 N at 0.5 MPa and 3321.5 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Operating pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure; below 0.2 MPa the spring wins and the rod stays retracted. Speed range is 50-500 mm/s, air must be filtered to 40 um, and the temperature window is -20 to +70 C. The port is 1/4" and the rod end is male thread (B code).

Order ASE80X15: swap the P for an E and you get the current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with the same short-body layout and mounting family (FA/FB flange, LB foot, CA/CB clevis). Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture, and remember this S-coded model carries the optional -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches - specify it again on the replacement if you need position sensing.
