AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE80X20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X20B is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø80mm bore and 20mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE80X20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the discontinued ASP80X20B uses shop air to extend its 20 mm rod and an internal spring to retract it, so one air line is all the plumbing needs. At 0.5 MPa the 80 mm bore delivers 2316.2 N of push already net of the spring, rising to 3321.5 N at 0.7 MPa, and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into dense clamping fixtures and guarded assemblies.
For sizing, treat about 1390 N (0.6 of the 0.5 MPa rating) as the usable working force, which corresponds to lifting roughly 118 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries a fixed TPU bumper at both ends, the S45C rod ends in a male thread (the B code), and the 1/4" port matches the 80 mm bore. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ASE80X20, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 2316.2 N push at 0.5 MPa seats bronze bushings into gearbox housings on a short 20 mm stroke, with the spring retracting the mandrel the moment air vents.

Kicks machined aluminum brackets off their locating pins at end of cycle, delivering about 1390 N of usable force in a body short enough to hide inside the fixture base.
Compare force classes before committing: the 63 mm bore gives 1420.5 N at 0.5 MPa, while this 80 mm unit more than doubles that to 2316.2 N, and the 100 mm bore reaches 3640.7 N if you need more. Because the spring drives the rod home on air loss, the cylinder always parks retracted and will not hold a mid-stroke position. FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis mounts bolt to the standard face, and if you need position sensing, order the -S code to enable CMSE / DMSE switches - without -S there is no magnet. Replace this discontinued model with the ASE80X20.
Replacement checklist
Net of the return spring, the 80 mm bore pushes 2316.2 N at 0.5 MPa and 3321.5 N at 0.7 MPa. Operating range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, and 0.2 MPa is the minimum needed to overcome the spring. Speed runs 50-500 mm/s, air must be filtered to 40 um, and temperature spans -20 to +70 C.
The ASP family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ASE80X20 (swap the P for an E), which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - just confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. For sensing, the magnet is the optional -S code: order ASP80X20BS and CMSE or DMSE switches will work; the plain ASP80X20B has no magnet, so no switch can be mounted.
