This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE80X5SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE80X5SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X5SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø80mm bore and 5mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE80X5SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP80X5SB extends its 20 mm rod with air and retracts it by spring, so one air line is all the valve circuit needs. This 80 mm bore unit delivers 2316.2 N of push at 0.5 MPa (3321.5 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring, with a 5 mm stroke and a 1/4" port. It is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ASE80X5, which keeps the same bore, stroke and force class.
The short ISO 21287-style body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight clamping fixtures and guarded stations. Because the S code is in this model, the optional -S magnet is fitted, letting CMSE or DMSE switches report end positions. As a rule of thumb, count on about 1389 N (roughly 141 kg equivalent) of usable vertical effort at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE80X5SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force (spring return) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 2316.2 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 3321.5 N |
Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.
| ASP | DIN compact cylinder (single-acting push, spring-return, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 80 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×5 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 5 mm stroke and 2316.2 N push at 0.5 MPa seat a dowel or locating pin into a machined boss in one short, firm motion.
Spring return drops the clamp the moment air is lost, a fail-safe posture for guarding next to a trimming die.
The short body tucks under a low sealing gantry, holding flaps flat while the tape head passes over.
Size the job both ways: a 63 mm bore of this family pushes about 1420.5 N at 0.5 MPa, while a 100 mm bore reaches 3640.7 N, so the 80 mm sits squarely between them for heavy short-throw clamping. On air loss the spring drives the rod home to the retracted position; it will not hold a mid-stroke load. Foot, flange and clevis brackets bolt to the mounting face, and the ASE80X5 is the drop-in successor - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Replacement checklist
Push is 2316.2 N at 0.5 MPa and 3321.5 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa (28-145 psi overall range, proof 1.5 MPa / 215 psi), speed 50-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, air filtered to 40 um, port 1/4" PT, male rod thread.
The compact aluminium body cuts about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, and fixed TPU bumpers decelerate the rod at both ends. Because this model carries the optional -S magnet, CMSE or DMSE switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke signalling.
