About the Airtac ATP Single Acting Port Compact Cylinder ATP32X15S
A single acting pull cylinder with spring return, the ATP32X15S uses a spring to extend its 12 mm rod and compressed air to retract it, so the rod sits normally extended and fails to the extended position when air is lost. With a 32 mm bore it delivers 296 N of pull at 0.5 MPa and 434.2 N at 0.7 MPa, both figures already net of the return spring, and it needs at least 0.2 MPa to overcome the spring. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ATE32X15, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class.
The short ISO 21287-style body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight fixtures, guards and sliding doors. Because the S code is in this model, the optional -S magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke detection. In practice, plan on about 178 N of usable pull at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 15 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin - enough to retract a small fixture clamp or close a light guard door. A fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the rod, and the hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod resists wear in daily cycling.

Size the bore against your retraction load: the 25 mm bore gives 170.9 N of pull at 0.5 MPa, while the 40 mm bore raises it to 500.3 N, so 296 N at 0.5 MPa places this 32 mm unit in the middle of the range. Remember the spring cannot hold a mid-stroke position - on air loss the rod returns to extended.
