About the Airtac ATP Single Acting Port Compact Cylinder ATP40X15
A single acting pull cylinder with spring return, the ATP40X15 keeps its rod normally extended: the internal spring pushes the 12 mm rod out and compressed air retracts it. At 0.5 MPa the net pull is 500.3 N (729 N at 0.7 MPa), already measured after the spring has taken its share, and 0.2 MPa is the minimum pressure needed to beat the spring. This model is discontinued; the current-production successor is the ATE40X15, an ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The short ISO 21287 body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight guards and fixture plates. For sizing, treat about 300 N (0.6 of the 0.5 MPa rating) as the usable working pull, and note the rod lifts roughly 51 kg equivalent at 0.5 MPa, or about 25 kg with a 2:1 vertical margin. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries a 1/8" port, and the rod ends in a female M8x1.25 thread. The optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches; this code has no magnet fitted.

The 15 mm stroke is within the short range single-acting pull cylinders offer, and speed runs 50-500 mm/s. Remember the spring only returns the rod to its extended home position on air loss - it never holds a mid-stroke position. Match FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounts to your fixture, and order the -S code if CMSE / DMSE switching is required. For new designs, specify the ATE40X15 instead and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
