This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ATE40X25B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ATE40X25B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ATP Single Acting Port Compact Cylinder ATP40X25B is a single acting, pull (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 25mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ATE40X25B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting pull cylinder with spring return, the ATP40X25B keeps its 12 mm rod extended by a spring and retracts it with air, delivering 500.3 N of pull at 0.5 MPa (729.0 N at 0.7 MPa), net of the spring. The hard-anodized aluminium body follows the ISO 21287 short format, so it saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder - ideal where a full-length body simply will not fit. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends of the stroke.
This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ATE40X25 (swap the P for an E), which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. Note the B code gives a male rod thread on the 12 mm rod, and the 1/8" port runs from 0.2 MPa minimum working pressure. For sizing: at 0.5 MPa plan on roughly 300 N of usable pull, which is about 25 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin. The optional -S magnet code enables CMSE / DMSE switches; without it there is no magnet fitted.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ATE40X25B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Pull force (spring return) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 500.3 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 729.0 N |
Single-acting pull: the spring extends the rod; air retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.
| ATP | DIN compact cylinder (single-acting pull, spring-return, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 40 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×25 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
On a packaging line gate, the spring holds the 12 mm rod extended to lift a light guard plate; air at 0.5 MPa pulls it down with 500.3 N, and a power drop leaves the gate safely up.
A machining fixture uses the spring-extended pin to lock a workpiece in position; 25 mm of air-pulled retraction clears the part, and the short ISO 21287 body fits inside the jig plate stack.
On a conveyor diverter arm, the spring keeps the arm raised at rest; a 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) signal retracts it for only the divert cycle, so a lost air supply returns the line to its default state.
At 500.3 N pull at 0.5 MPa, the 40 mm bore sits between the 32 mm (296.0 N) and 50 mm (775.0 N) frames - step down if your load is under 300 N, step up if you need more margin. Remember the spring returns the rod to its extended home on air loss and will not hold a mid-stroke position. Match FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounting to your fixture, and order the -S code if you need CMSE / DMSE switch positions. For new designs, specify the ATE40X25 instead, as this ATP is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
It is a single acting pull cylinder: the spring extends the rod and air retracts it. Net of the return spring, pull is 500.3 N at 0.5 MPa and 729.0 N at 0.7 MPa. Operating range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 50-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, with air filtered to 40 um. Minimum 0.2 MPa is needed to overcome the spring.
The hard-anodized aluminium body follows the ISO 21287 short format, saving about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis options plus a fixed TPU bumper at both ends. The ATP40X25B is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ATE40X25 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
