Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI100X1000S

The AirTAC Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI100X1000S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 1000mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 5500 N.

About the Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI100X1000S

The AirTAC BSAI100X1000-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock mechanism. A defining feature of this series is the ability to secure the piston rod at any position along its 1000 mm travel, delivering a static holding force of 5500 N. The base extruded aluminum barrel is dimensionally interchangeable per ISO 15552 mounting interfaces. Because it includes the -S magnet, it supports position detection via AirTAC CMSE reed switches or DMSE solid-state electronic sensors.

It is vital to distinguish between the cylinder thrust and the clamp holding force: the 5497 N push thrust at 0.7 MPa moves the load, while the 5500 N clamp force secures it statically. You must size the holding force against your static load, not the thrust. Furthermore, the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke ends; it does not hold the load. The clamp operates via a third G1/8 enclasp port, requiring 0.15-0.7 MPa to release. Note that the clamp locks only after the rod stops and cannot brake a moving load.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

5500 N
static holding force (Ø100 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø100mm)

0.7 MPa (max)5498 N

Push/pull as tabulated. Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI100X1000S Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Axis Hold

Secures a 1000 mm vertical lift arm at any intermediate height during power loss, relying on the 5500 N static clamp rather than live pressure.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Freezes the extended rod at a precise machining coordinate, ensuring the workpiece remains completely immobilized against cutting forces.

shield

Emergency Stop Safety

Engages the spring-applied clamp only after the cylinder stops moving, preventing uncontrolled drops while signaling an external safety system.

Is the Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI100X1000S the Right Clamp-Lock?

Select this 100 mm bore model when an application requires 5497 N of push thrust at 0.7 MPa and a mid-stroke hold, stepping up from the 80 mm bore that provides 3518 N thrust and 3600 N holding force. Choose BSAI over a SAIL cylinder when you need to enclasp the rod anywhere in the travel rather than only at stroke end. If locking is unnecessary, a plain SAI cylinder suffices. With a 1000 mm stroke, the 25 mm diameter rod and M20x1.5 thread provide robust side-load capacity, but an external guide is mandatory to prevent binding over this long unsupported distance.

For replacements, match the single-rod configuration, 100 mm bore, 1000 mm stroke, PT port threads, and the correct mounting set for single-rod BSAI (Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, TCM1, TCM2). The clamp unlocks only when air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced; otherwise, the rod may jump abruptly. For human-safety-critical loads, an additional independent safety measure is required.

Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI100X1000S FAQ

The integrated clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 5500 N. It is bidirectional and locks the rod at any position along the 1000 mm stroke, but it only engages after the cylinder has stopped moving; it cannot brake a moving rod.

The clamp uses a third G1/8 enclasp port and requires 0.15-0.7 MPa to release. You must balance the air pressures on both sides of the piston before unlocking, or the rod may jump abruptly. Safety-critical loads require an additional independent safety measure.
