It delivers a static holding force of 5500 N, while generating 5497 N of push thrust at a 0.7 MPa practical maximum pressure. Remember that holding force and thrust are separate quantities: you must size the clamp's 5500 N capacity against your static load, not the cylinder's 5497 N push force. The lock is bidirectional, engaging whether the rod was extending or retracting.

This model includes the -S magnet for precise position sensing with AirTAC CMSE reed switches or DMSE solid-state electronic sensors. The clamp operates via a third G1/8 enclasp port, requiring 0.15-0.7 MPa to release. Crucially, the variable air cushion at the stroke ends only decelerates the piston; it is the mechanical clamp that actually secures the load.

Is the Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI100X250S the Right Clamp-Lock?

Step down to a bore 80 model if your load requires less than 3600 N of holding force or 2513 N of thrust at 0.5 MPa, or step up to bore 125 for 8600 N holding capacity. Choose this BSAI clamp-lock over a SAIL cylinder when you need to hold the load at any intermediate point in the stroke, rather than just at the stroke end. If you only need end-of-stroke positioning, a plain SAI cylinder suffices. This 250 mm stroke is safely under the 1000 mm standard maximum, but always ensure adequate side-load support.
